The Video Platform Grants Users Control to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Their Feeds

Users will soon have a updated setting that enables them to cut down on the quantity of AI-created videos appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the company disclosed that it currently hosts more than 1 bn AI-generated clips.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a global rollout. This advancement comes amid a surge in AI-generated material, spurred by new content generation software.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that nearly one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on a competing service primarily display content made by AI. A large amount of this output is considered “AI slop”, a phrase for substandard, mass-produced content that is often absurd or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users enjoy content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to informative clips, and we want to provide users the ability to increase or decrease of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

The platform announced that there are currently 1.3bn videos on its service identified as AI-generated. In total, in excess of 100 million media items are uploaded to the service each day, making AI-generated material a minor portion of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be capable of reduce or increase the level of artificial media they watch by accessing the “manage topic” option in the application and picking AI-made media. Other topics that are already be adjusted under the tool encompass current affairs, fashion, beauty, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its guidelines oblige users to identify lifelike AI-made content, and it bans harmful AI impersonations of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any believable AI-generated clip that is not labeled can be removed under its community policies.

In addition, the app will now add an AI-generated watermark to content made using its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This measure is designed to stop users from attempting to bypass the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is furthermore introducing a $2m educational fund for experts and organizations to create informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will support non-profit groups specializing in training coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has justified its content review process, during controversy over proposals to make redundant a large number of content moderators in Britain. It is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its content moderation team in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by automated systems.

A senior executive clarified that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but AI can shield workers by removing the most graphic content before it gets reviewed by staff. The platform reported a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content seen by content reviewers over the previous year due to the use of its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to combine people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to reduce exposure to harmful content as quickly as possible, which is where a significant AI assistance is really helping us work at speed.”
