Multiple Injured as In-Flight Disturbance Impacts Delta Flight Landing at Sydney, Australia

Delta Airlines said the aircraft experienced "short-lived rough air" as it arrived at Sydney Airport.

A number of individuals sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight from LA to Sydney, Australia was hit by significant turbulence this past Friday.

Delta Flight 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson stated. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they evaluated a total of five people, and transported a trio to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised pain in the back and head pain. The patients' ages were between their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the most recent case of commercial jets experiencing atmospheric disturbance, with experts saying that climate change is a major factor.

On board were 245 people and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the Delta spokesperson added, stating that the plane arrived "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.

Emergency responders said they were alerted just a mere three minutes ahead of the plane arrived, and emergency vehicles were waiting on the tarmac.

The reasons turbulence is getting more frequent - and potentially more dangerous.

Last year, twenty-five passengers and crew sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight, flying from Salt Lake City, Utah to Amsterdam, Netherlands, hit "significant" rough air just two hours into the lengthy trip, and was forced to make an emergency landing.
